Emily Curran

I am a PhD candidate in Sociology and Demography at the University of Pennsylvania. Broadly, I study how gender, family, and sexuality structure inequality, with a particular focus on paid and unpaid care work. 

My research uses large-scale, nationally representative datasets and advanced quantitative methods to examine three core questions: 

1. Who provides care, under what conditions, and with what consequences?

2. How do gender and sexuality shape inequality within relationships and institutions and across countries?

3. How can we leverage quantitative data to deepen our understanding of social categories and inequalities?

My work has received support from the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health and awards from the Population and Inequality, Poverty, and Mobility sections of the American Sociological Association.
